The Art of Jean-Pierre Rampal
Jean Pierre Rampal was a French flute player. He was born in Marseille, France on January 7, 1922 and died May 20, 2000 and was buried in Cimetiere du Montparnasse, Paris, France.
He is most known for introducing the flute in the international concert circuit as he arranged/performed many of the works from the Baroque era. His long and successful career lead him to perform with many famous orchestras and chamber ensembles.
Perhaps one of his best legacies is the "annual Jean-Pierre Rampal Flute Competition" that is held as part of the Concours internationaux de la Ville de Paris. This competition is for young flutists of all nationalities born after November 8, 1971.
